چکیده

Shading and reflectance images, which are commonly called intrinsic images, are useful in many computer vision applications. A number of methods have been proposed to extract those images. Unfortunately, all of these methods assume diffuse only reflections and deem highlights to be outliers. To overcome the presence of highlights, usually reflection components separation is applied before attempting to recover intrinsic images. However, it is well known that reflection components separation itself is an intractable task that could pose additional problems. In this paper, we present a method that not only extracts the intrinsic images from an image with highlights but also decomposes the image reflection components in a single integrated framework. By considering reflection components as part of image intrinsic properties, and then using our method, we can extract four type properties: shading image, reflectance image, diffuse reflection component and specular reflection component. The method requires only a single image, without knowledge of the 3D geometrical data of the objects. The method is based on the specular-free image, a diffuse component pseudo image that has a geometrical profile exactly identical to the diffuse component of the input image, and can be generated using a local (pixel-based) operation. The method is effective even if the input image has textured surfaces.

Color Image Analysis With An Intrinsic Reflection Model

In this paper, we present an approach to color image understanding that can be used to segment and analyze surfaces with color variations due to highlights and shading. We begin with a theory the Dichromatic Reflection Model that relates the reflected light from dielectric materials, such as plastic, to fundamental physical reflection processes, and describes the color of the reflected light as...

Illumination Color and Intrinsic Surface Properties – Physics - Based Color Analyses from a Single Image –

A consistent color descriptor of an object is a significant requirement for many applications in computer vision. In the real world, unfortunately, the color appearances of objects are generally not consistent. It depends principally on two factors: illumination spectral power distribution (illumination color) and intrinsic surface properties. Consequently, to obtain objects’ consistent color d...

Diagnosis of brain tumor using image processing and determination of its type with RVM neural networks

Typically, the diagnosis of a tumor is done through surgical sampling, which is more precise with existing methods. The difference is that this is an aggressive, time consuming and expensive way. In the statistical method, due to the complexity of the brain tissues and the similarity between the cancerous cells and the natural tissues, even a radiologist or an expert physician may also be in er...

Segmentation of Specular Highlights from Object Surfaces

A major hindrance to image segmentation tasks are the presence of specular highlights on object surfaces. Specular highlights appear on object surfaces where the specu lar component of reflection from illuminating light sources is so dominant that most detail of the object su rface is obscured by a bright region of refiecied light. Specular highlights are very common artifacts of most ligh t in...

Using a Color Reflection Model to Separate Highlights from Object Color

Current methods for image segmentation are confused by artifacts such as highlights, because they are not based on any physical model of these phenomena. In this paper, we present an approach to color image understanding that accounts for color variations due to highlights and shading. Based on the physics of reflection by dielectric materials, such as plastic, we show that the color of every p...
